Committee on future energy and social systems has started the next active period of Phase II since FY2017. The committee envisioned a society of net emission zero using 100% renewable energy as one of preferable future energy and social systems, and presents energy technologies and societal systems required to realize the society and directions of research and development through interdisciplinary activities. This symposium introduces the latest challenges in residential and commercial sectors, which are expected to realize the vision earlier than other sectors due to their thermal demand, and offers the opportunity of discussions on the above points.
